Governor Godwin Obaseki has emerged as the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for the September 19th gubernatorial elections in Edo State.
Obaseki was announced as the winner of the party’s primary election after the three of his opponents withdrew their candidacy and pledged their support for him.
Engr Gideon Ikhine; Hon Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama; and Kenneth Imasuagbon were his opposing contestants prior to the primary at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
Engr. Ikhine was the first of the contestants to peacefully withdraw; Hon. Ihama withdrew after his lawsuit failed to stop Obaseki from contesting at the primary; while Imasuagbon officially announced his withdrawal at the venue of the primary.
This means that Obaseki will still be in contention for a second term after he was disqualified from contesting by his former party, APC.
