The Nigeria Bar Association(NBA) has announced Olumide Akpata as its new President-Elect after the Association’s general-elections for 2020.
NBA Electoral Committee Chairman, Tawo E Tawo (SAN) officially announced the results of the (virtually held) elections on Friday, making Akapa the first non Senior-Advocate to ascend the position since Olisa Agbakoba in 2006.
Although Akpata contended with senior advocates, he showed dominance in the results as he won the election with a total of 9,891 votes(54.3%) of the total 18,256 ballots cast. He was followed by Babatunde Ajibade (SAN) who polled 4,328 votes while Dele Adesina (SAN) polled 3,982 votes.
Meanwhile, other positions announced saw John O Aikpokpo-Martins emerged as the first vice president; Adeyemo Kazeem Debo, 2nd Vice President; Oduah Joyce, General Secretary; Nwadialo Esther Uchenna, Assistant Secretary; Mercy Ijato Agada, treasurer; Edun Olukunle, welfare secretary; Anagor Raphael Nnamdi, Financial Secretary; Nduka Rapuluchukwu Ernest (PhD), Publicity Secretary; and Naza Ferdinand Afam, Assistant Publicity Secretary.
Thus, concluding the results for the two days NBA general elections which commenced at 11.00PM on Wednesday 29th July 2020 till 11.00PM on Thursday 30th July, 2020.
